President Bola Tinubu has approved the creation of a new Federal Polytechnic in Gwarinpa District, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), named Bola Ahmed Tinubu Polytechnic, Gwarinpa. The institution is designed to promote technological, vocational, and entrepreneurial education in line with Nigeria’s national policy on education.
In a letter dated January 16, 2025, Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa confirmed the federal government’s approval, requesting FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to propose suitable sites for both the temporary and permanent locations of the polytechnic. A technical team from the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) will inspect the proposed sites before final approval for the takeoff site.
Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), praised the initiative, calling the new polytechnic a significant development for the FCT. He also acknowledged the role of Minister Wike in realizing the project and noted the historical appointment of Zaphaniah Bitrus Jisalo, a native of FCT, as a minister.
The new polytechnic is expected to enhance access to quality technical and vocational education, contributing to skills development and innovation in the FCT and strengthening Nigeria’s educational landscape.
