‎Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has announced that agreements signed during his visit to Lombardy, Italy, would boost youth employment and stimulate economic growth in the FCT.   Speaking to reporters upon his arrival in Abuja on Monday, Wike highlighted successful discussions with the President of the Lombardy Regional Government, Attilio Fontana. Some of the key outcomes of the visit include the proposed opening of a vocational training center in Abuja and an agreement on the modernization of agriculture in the FCT.   “Our visit was very successful. We signed a memorandum of understanding with Lombardy to set up a vocational centre for skills acquisition, aside from efforts to promote mechanized agriculture that will provide employment and improve our economy,” Wike stated.   He appreciated the Lombardy government for their commitment towards the partnership, indicating that the projects are aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ to attract foreign investment into Nigeria.   Wike also indicated that Lombardy would also support vocational training in the FCT, including providing training for Abuja youths in Italy.   Related Posts Market offers rent-now, pay-later answer to tenants. President Bola Tinubu has approved the creation of a new Federal Polytechnic in Gwarinpa District, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), named Bola Ahmed Tinubu Polytechnic, Gwarinpa. The institution is designed to promote technological, vocational, and entrepreneurial education in line with Nigeria’s national policy on education.   In a letter dated January 16, 2025, Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa confirmed the federal government’s approval, requesting FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to propose suitable sites for both the temporary and permanent locations of the polytechnic. A technical team from the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) will inspect the proposed sites before final approval for the takeoff site.   Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), praised the initiative, calling the new polytechnic a significant development for the FCT. He also acknowledged the role of Minister Wike in realizing the project and noted the historical appointment of Zaphaniah Bitrus Jisalo, a native of FCT, as a minister.   The new polytechnic is expected to enhance access to quality technical and vocational education, contributing to skills development and innovation in the FCT and strengthening Nigeria’s educational landscape.
