FG Assures NYSC Members: ₦77,000 Allowance Arrears Would Be Paid

The Federal Government has promised members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) that its approved backlog of ₦77,000 allowance would be paid. Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, made the promise on an interview at Channels Television’s Politics Today, Monday, 24th of March, 2025.

The government, in September 2024, had announced an increase in the monthly allowance of corps members from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000. But a few months later, the new payment regime has not been introduced yet, which has angered corps members—especially those who have already served or are about to serve their service year.

Olawande confirmed that all serving corps members and those enlisted at the time the announcement was made would have payments made retrospectively.

“You’ve seen the new DG declaring that you’ll receive it, and they’re challenging him: ‘What about the ones going out now? Will they receive it [backlog]?’ He said, ‘We have your details,'” Olawande said.
