The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, has announced an increase in the monthly allowance for corps members to ₦77,000, with the new payments set to begin in February 2025. This follows approval from the Federal Government.
Speaking to the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream II corps members in Katsina, Ahmed shared the exciting news and added that, in a move to ensure their safety, corps members will no longer be posted to communities with ongoing security threats.
He reassured the corps members that their safety and welfare continue to be a top priority for the NYSC, with the revised allowance being part of the 2025 Federal Government budget. Once the budget is finalized and approved, the new allowance will be implemented.
“We will not send our corps members to wherever we have security challenges and threats. Wherever we send them, they should be assured that the place is safe and secure for them to serve,” Ahmed stated.
He confirmed that although January has ended, corps members will begin receiving the increased allowance of ₦77,000 starting next month, February, instead of the previous ₦33,000.
The NYSC DG further emphasized that the corps members should show appreciation for this gesture from the government by giving their best during their service year. Additionally, he assured the corps members that the NYSC will take steps to ensure they are deployed only to secure and safe locations during their service year.
