Ademola Lookman Slams Atalanta Coach Over “Disrespectful” Comments

Ademola Lookman has fired back at Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini, accusing him of making “deeply disrespectful” remarks following the club’s Champions League exit. Lookman, returning from injury, came on as a half-time substitute in Atalanta’s Champions League play-off second leg against Club Brugge, with his team trailing 5-1 on aggregate. The Nigerian forward made an immediate impact, scoring within 36 seconds of his introduction. However, he later missed a crucial penalty, prompting Gasperini’s harsh criticism, calling him “one of the worst penalty takers I’ve ever seen.”

Lookman’s Response

In a statement released on Wednesday, Lookman expressed his disappointment over Gasperini’s comments. It saddens me on a day like this to have to write this statement most of all because of what we have achieved together as a team and as a city.

“Being singled out in this manner not only hurts but feels deeply disrespectful, not least because of the immense hard work and commitment I have always put in each and every day to help bring success to this club and the incredible fans of Bergamo.”
