American singer, songwriter, and record producer R. Kelly, whose birth name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, has opened up about his experience behind bars three years into serving a 30-year prison term.
Interviewed on the seven-minute Inmate Tea With A&P podcast by phone, Kelly said he was constantly creative during his incarceration. R&B singer that he had written over two dozen albums while in prison in 2022. In the call under surveillance, he was questioned if he had gone on to use his musical skills during his incarceration. Kelly responded by explaining that singing was part of who he was, referring to it as “a beautiful disease that’s incurable,” stressing that he could never abandon performing.
It has been reported that the artist has written about 25 albums while incarcerated for his sentence, which is based on his 2021 racketeering and sex trafficking conviction. Apart from song composition, Kelly remarked that he is determined to have his freedom so he can return to his compositions, which are a gift he believes God bestowed upon him.
