Iyabo Ojo‘s drama film Labake Olododo is already shaking the Nigerian box office, raking in an impressive N172.5 million within two weeks of release.
The film, which premiered in cinemas nationwide on March 28, debuted with a resounding opening weekend box office of N50.4 million—the second-largest opening for a Nollywood film in 2025.
The box office figures, made available by FilmOne Group, indicate the film’s immediate popularity and bountiful word-of-mouth reception from the audience.
Labake Olododo is one of a new crop of female-directed blockbusters to take the Nollywood world by storm.
In the last year alone, a considerable number of woman-headed films have made waves at the box office. Eniola Ajao’s Ajakaju: Beasts of Two Worlds, for example, shattered the N200 million mark, while Queen Lateefah featuring Wumi Toriola amazed with an equally staggering N350 million in earnings.
