The North West Governors Forum has declared its full support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic policies, emphasizing their commitment to regional development and poverty alleviation. This declaration followed a high-level meeting held at the Katsina Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, presided over by Katsina State Governor, Dr. Dikko Umaru Radda. The meeting was attended by Governors Uba Sani (Kaduna), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Ahmed Aliyu (Sokoto), and Umar Namadi (Jigawa). Also present were UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, UN Resident Coordinator Mohammed Malik Fall, and UN Consultant on the North West, Maryam Uwais.

Addressing journalists after the closed-door session, Dr. Radda reaffirmed the governors’ commitment to lifting the people of the region out of poverty through strategic collaboration with the United Nations and the African Development Bank (AfDB). He specifically highlighted Agriculture 2.0, an initiative designed to drive economic growth across the North West.

“This project is focused on all North West States, with Kaduna and Kano as the initial launch points,” he said. “We are implementing agricultural programs, tackling out-of-school children, reducing poverty levels, and creating employment opportunities for our growing youth population.”

Dr. Radda further emphasized that all the North West governors stand united in supporting President Tinubu’s economic policies, viewing them as critical Nigeria’s economic prosperity. As part of efforts to enhance regional coordination, the forum also confirmed Hajiya Maryam Musa Mohammed as the Director-General of the North West Development Forum. Additionally, each governor has appointed focal persons to liaise with development partners to ensure effective implementation of key projects.
