Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has visited Kano State to condole with the government and families of the 16 hunters who were brutally killed in Uromi, Edo State, last week.
His visit comes amid growing outrage in northern Nigeria over the attack, reportedly carried out by a vigilante group in Edo.
Speaking at the Kano Government House on Monday, Okpebholo expressed deep shock over the killings and assured Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf that his administration was working closely with security agencies to ensure justice.
“The perpetrators of this heinous act will not go unpunished. So far, 14 suspects have been arrested, and investigations are ongoing to ensure justice is served,” he stated.
Governor Yusuf, in response, urged Edo authorities to ensure full prosecution of the suspects and called on the Federal Government to reveal their identities. He also demanded compensation for the families of the victims.
“This is a serious tragedy that must not be overlooked. We expect prompt prosecution of the suspects and adequate compensation for the affected families,” Yusuf stated.
Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that violence against any ethnic or religious group would not be tolerated and promised a thorough and transparent investigation into the killings.
