Wike Vows to Reallocate Revoked Maitama II Lands as Grace Period Ends

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his stance on reallocating revoked lands in Maitama II District, Abuja, following the expiration of a two-week grace period for owners to regularize their ownership. The grace period, which ends on January 3, was announced on December 20, giving owners of 762 plots in Cadastral Zone A10 the opportunity to pay for their Certificates of Occupancy (C of Os).

During an inspection of ongoing projects, including the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX), the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal, and the Saburi–Dei Dei Road on Tuesday, Wike made it clear that no extensions would be granted.

“We will not extend the grace period,” Wike stated. “After it expires, we will reallocate all those lands to other interested individuals.”

The minister expressed dissatisfaction with the widespread non-compliance with land regulations, noting that the revoked plots had been allocated over a decade ago. He clarified that the list of defaulters was compiled by the Land Department and the Abuja Geographic Information System under the previous administration. Wike’s firm position signals a renewed push for accountability and proper land use in the FCT.
