In a chilling testimony before the FCT Customary Court in Garki, Abuja, businesswoman Woye Ella revealed how her marriage turned into a nightmare when her husband allegedly attempted to set her ablaze with petrol. Standing before the court on Tuesday, Ella painted a disturbing picture of escalating domestic violence.
She described how routine disagreements would trigger violent outbursts from her husband, who frequently armed himself with weapons like screwdrivers and knives to threaten her. The breaking point came when her husband allegedly doused her with petrol, intending to burn her alive.
“If not for my neighbors who rushed to save me that day, I wouldn’t be alive to tell this story,” Ella testified, her voice trembling.
Neighbors managed to overpower her husband and got him arrested. Though he spent four days in police custody, he was released after his father’s intervention. When questioned about his actions, he offered no explanation for the attempted murder.
Fearing for her life, Ella has since abandoned their shared home. In her divorce petition, she’s requesting the court to not only dissolve the marriage but also order her husband to leave the property, which she claims to have built herself.
“I purchased the land and constructed the house with my own resources,” Ella informed the court, establishing her ownership of the disputed property.
