A horrific incident has rocked the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa (FPN) community as police arrested a student for allegedly killing his fellow student in a violent confrontation early Wednesday morning.
John Gambo, an ND2 Banking and Finance student, was taken into custody for the death of Ibrahim Matthew, a part-time ND2 Computer Science student, following a violent altercation at a student lodge behind ECWA Peace College on Shagari Road, Nasarawa.
The incident came to light when Mercy Bassey, a female resident of the property, reported a violent dispute between her tenant and his friend to the Nasarawa Police Division around 2:00 AM on February 6. Responding to the emergency, police detectives dispatched by Commissioner of Police Shetima Jauro Mohammed discovered Ibrahim Matthew lying in a pool of blood with severe injuries.
He was rushed to General Hospital Nasarawa but was pronounced dead on arrival. His body has been moved to the morgue for post-mortem examination. In a shocking development, the suspect, John Gambo, confessed to attacking Matthew with both an axe and a knife during the confrontation. Police have recovered both weapons from the suspect.
State Police Command spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed that the Commissioner has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation and subsequent prosecution.
