The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that a scheduled seven-hour power outage will affect parts of Abuja due to annual preventive maintenance on two transformers at the Apo 132/33kV Transmission Substation. According to a statement from TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the maintenance is set to occur on Saturday, February 22, and Sunday, February 23, 2025, between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM each day.
This maintenance will temporarily disrupt power supply in affected areas during the specified time frame.
The statement clarified that TCN’s maintenance crew will be carrying out annual preventive maintenance on the 2x100MVA TR3 and TR4 transformers at the Apo 132/33kV Transmission Substation. The necessary power interruptions are unavoidable, as the Abuja Distribution Company (DisCo) will be unable to receive bulk power supply from the transformers during the maintenance period. Once the maintenance is completed, power will be restored to the affected areas.
On Saturday, February 22, the outage will impact locations such as the National Hospital, G2 Injection Station, Garki, Area 1, and Asokoro.
On Sunday, February 23, the power outage will extend to areas including Apo Legislative Quarters, Apo Resettlement, Gudu, Apo Mechanic, and neighboring communities.
TCN explained that the outage is essential, as the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company will not be able to receive bulk power from the affected transformers during the maintenance period. The company apologized for any inconvenience caused and reassured customers that power will be restored immediately after the maintenance is completed.
