Akpabio Refutes Assassination Plot Allegation, Threatens to Sue Natasha Akpoti and Elisha Abbo

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has firmly denied recent accusations by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) that he hatched a plot to assassinate her, describing the allegations as “malicious, false, and inflammatory.”

In a Friday statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio defied the allegations and made plans to sue Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and former Senator Elisha Abbo.

According to Eyiboh’s narrative, formal letters of demand are being prepared to request public apologies, formal apologies, and compensation for alleged damages to Akpabio’s reputation.

As a statesman of national unity and a democrat, I will not be distracted by malicious and renegade lies or fire-branded incantations,” Akpabio declared through his media aide.

He referred to Akpoti-Uduaghan’s assassination claim as “a dangerous and provocative fiction,” and pointed out that this was not the first time she had made a false accusation.

He mentioned an earlier sexual harassment claim by Akpabio against Akpoti-Uduaghan, which she later “abandoned without explanation.”

Eyiboh disagreed that the trend points to a strategic action to exploit the sympathy of the public for political reasons.

“It is a sustained trend of weaponizing falsehoods and playing the victimhood for political objectives,” he said.

The message, titled “Re: False and Malicious Allegations Targeting the President of the Senate,” also addressed fresh allegations made by former Senator Elisha Abbo.

In an April 2 Arise TV interview, Abbo asserted that Akpabio had rigged the judiciary to remove him from office.

But Eyiboh was also quick to point out to the public that Abbo had already rejected those same claims in 2023, making a public apology after owning up they were done on “false assumptions.”.

He reinforced that Abbo’s suspension was owing to a Court of Appeal ruling, not political interference.

On Abbo’s recent accusation of being deprived of benefits as a past senator, Eyiboh clarified that such benefits are processed via administrative procedures, not within the discretion of the Senate President.

“These new allegations over entitlements are also completely false,” he added.

Eyiboh indicated that the accusations recently have become politically motivated with him saying, “The cohesiveness and timing of such attacks suggest there is a concert of efforts designed to discredit Senate leadership.”

He concluded by stressing Akpabio’s commitment to his office in the legislature, that litigation is being mounted but would in no way preclude the assignment of the duties of the Senate President.

“Even though there is a necessity for legal action, formal letters of demand for retractions, apologies, and payments are in the works,” Eyiboh said.
