Stan Alieke, the lawyer representing singer Speed Darlington, has expressed frustration over his client’s prolonged detention by the Nigeria Police despite a court order granting him bail.
In a video shared on Instagram, Alieke criticized the police for disregarding the judicial directive and highlighted the struggles in securing the release of the controversial artist, who has now spent over a month in detention.
“Yesterday marked 31 days since he has been in detention. People are saying, ‘Stop the emotional blackmail; why don’t you advise your client?’
Let’s move on from that because those arguments are nonsense—it could be you,” Alieke remarked.
The lawyer also pointed out the lack of public and influential support for Speed Darlington, attributing it to his polarizing reputation for attacking others’ brands and characters.
He contrasted the current situation with a previous arrest, during which Burna Boy stepped in to assist.
“I’ve exhausted my connections; no one wants to help Speed Darlington,” Alieke lamented. “The first time he was arrested, Burna Boy showed up with his team and handed out bundles of cash to the police officers.”
