Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is drawing a line in the sand with Nigeria’s legislative leadership, demanding they allow her back to work by Monday or prepare for a legal battle.
According to report, the embattled senator has given the Clerk of the National Assembly, Kamorudeen Ogunlana, until September 15 to stop blocking her return to the Senate floor, threatening serious legal consequences if he refuses to comply.
In a strongly-worded letter delivered Tuesday through her senior lawyer Michael Numa, Akpoti-Uduaghan made it clear she’s done waiting around.
“If you don’t let me resume by Monday, we’re taking you to court – both personally and in your official capacity,” the letter essentially warned Ogunlana.
Her legal team isn’t pulling punches either. Numa accused the top legislative official of ignoring existing court orders, calling it a blatant violation of both the law and the Code of Conduct for Public Officers.
The senator’s camp is threatening everything from contempt proceedings to disciplinary action, and they’re even suggesting Ogunlana could be held responsible for “causing public unrest.”
“We strongly recommend you rethink this impossible position and follow the Constitution and court orders,” Numa cautioned in the September 10 letter.
The standoff began after Acting Clerk Yahaya Danzaria told Akpoti-Uduaghan she couldn’t return to legislative duties because her suspension case was still making its way through the courts.
But the senator and her team clearly believe they have legal grounds to ignore that directive.
