North Central PDP Stakeholders Demand Restoration of National Chairmanship Seat

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders from the North Central zone have declared their readiness to produce a substantive national chairman to fill the vacancy created by Senator Iyorchia Ayu’s exit.

At a meeting convened to address the party’s leadership challenges, prominent figures, including Governor Caleb Muftwang of Plateau State, Senator David Mark, Senator Bukola Saraki, and others, emphasized the constitutional mandate for the position to remain in the North Central zone.

The meeting comes ahead of the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in February 2025 and follows calls for the acting national chairman, Amb. Illiya Damagum, to step down to allow a North Central member to assume the role.

In a communique, the stakeholders urged party leaders to adhere to Section 47(6) of the PDP constitution, which provides for succession within the same zone, stressing that restoring the chairmanship to the North Central zone is crucial for party unity and cohesion.
