NAFDAC Seizes Over N1.5 Billion Worth of Banned and Expired Products at Lagos Trade Fair Market

In a bold move to keep Nigerians safe, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) pulled off a massive raid at the Lagos Trade Fair Market, seizing banned, expired, and unregistered products worth a staggering ₦1.5 billion.

This is one of their biggest crackdowns yet, and it’s got everyone talking!

Led by Dr. Martins Iluyomade, NAFDAC’s Director of Investigation & Enforcement, the operation zeroed in on the market’s cosmetics section.

What they found was jaw-dropping: entire warehouses stuffed with unregistered cosmetics, expired food items, and other goods that didn’t meet safety standards.

Many of these products were missing NAFDAC registration numbers or proper expiry dates, posing serious risks to unsuspecting shoppers.

“We uncovered stacks of items that could really harm people,” Dr. Iluyomade shared during the raid.

The team didn’t stop there—they intercepted a trailer packed with shady cosmetics and evacuated another loaded with questionable goods.

One driver even bolted when he spotted NAFDAC officials, but the agency secured the vehicle anyway. Talk about a high-stakes operation!

This raid is part of NAFDAC’s ongoing mission to clean up markets across Nigeria and protect consumers from dangerous products.

“This seizure shows how serious we are about keeping people safe,” NAFDAC said in a statement.

They’re urging everyone to stay sharp, check for proper labels—like NAFDAC numbers and expiry dates—before buying anything, and report anything sketchy.
