Moghalu Dismisses Badenoch Controversy: ‘Focus on Nigeria’s Real Problems’

In a pointed critique of Nigerian political discourse, renowned economist and former presidential candidate Kingsley Moghalu has called for an end to the heated debate surrounding UK politician Kemi Badenoch‘s national identity, urging leaders to concentrate on the country’s critical economic challenges instead.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Moghalu delivered a sharp rebuke to those engrossed in the controversy over Badenoch’s perceived distancing from her Nigerian heritage.

His message was unequivocal: the ongoing identity discussion is a distraction from Nigeria’s most pressing issues.

“Even if she were to become the UK Prime Minister tomorrow morning, it would have absolutely ZERO implications for Nigeria and Nigerians,” Moghalu stated, cutting through the noise surrounding the British-Nigerian politician’s recent controversial remarks.

The controversy erupted after Badenoch, a rising star in British politics, made comments that were interpreted as minimizing her Nigerian roots.

Her statements drew sharp criticism, including a public rebuke from Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Moghalu’s intervention represents a pragmatic call to action. “So why all the fuss?” he challenged.

“Nigerian leaders and Nigerians should fix Nigeria’s problems. ‘Claiming’ Kemi or her ‘denying’ Nigeria won’t solve them.”
