In a major crackdown on crime, the Lagos State Police Command has arrested 68 suspects over the past four weeks, seizing a haul of weapons, stolen vehicles, and items tied to a massive N500 million fraud scheme.

The announcement came from Commissioner of Police Olohundare Moshood Jimoh during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja, where he laid out the police’s recent wins in tackling everything from armed robbery and cultism to kidnapping and murder.

CP Jimoh was clearly proud of his team’s efforts, attributing their success to sharper crime-fighting strategies, quicker response times, and better preparedness.

He gave a shoutout to Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun for equipping them with modern tools and to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for logistical support that’s slashed police response times to around five minutes.

So, what exactly did they find? The police recovered 17 firearms, including English pistols, a Beretta pistol, an AK-49 rifle, and some locally made guns, along with 99 rounds of live ammunition.

They also seized four vehicles—a Mercedes-Benz E350, a Toyota RAV4, an unregistered Toyota Camry, and two minibuses—plus 19 mobile phones, laptops, naval IDs, bulletproof vests, axes, and hammers.

On top of that, they uncovered documents linked to a N500 million visa scam run by an educational consultancy that allegedly duped over 100 people with fake Canadian and Australian work permits.

The police also ensured the 2025 Local Government election on July 12 went off without a hitch, thanks to tight security measures like a joint “Show of Force” operation and restrictions on vehicle movement during voting.

CP Jimoh wrapped up with a promise to keep the heat on criminals.

“We’re asking Lagosians to stay vigilant and report anything suspicious,” he said.

“As long as I’m in charge, we’re going to keep crime as low as it can get.”
