The Brazilian football federation is reported to have renewed its interest in Carlo Ancelotti and would rather have the Italian at the wheel for the 2026 World Cup. This comes after the humiliating 4-1 defeat that Brazil incurred at the hands of bitter rivals Argentina in World Cup qualification on Tuesday night. This positions Brazil fourth after the game, and with the top six teams from CONMEBOL earning automatic qualification to the USA, Mexico, and Canada-hosted tournament.
In 2023, the CBF pursued the 65-year-old and were set to make him the country’s first-ever overseas head coach. The federation has again spoken to the Italian, according to The Athletic, as pressure continues to mount on incumbent boss Dorival Junior. It is further alleged in the report that Madrid stated they did not know about any contact between their manager and the CBF.
Earlier, Brazil legend Ronaldo Nazario described the Selecao’s chase of Carlo Ancelotti in 2023 as ‘not a fantasy’ when he turned them down.
Ancelotti was out of contract at the Bernabeu and Brazil were pinning their hopes on luring him to side where most of his Los Blancos stars play their national football.
CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues, who was re-elected unopposed this week, told the country Ancelotti would be on the job when his Madrid deal ran out in 2024, prepared for the Copa America in June in the USA. ‘He will be here, you can be sure,’ Rodrigues said of Ancelotti. Sadly, no installation occurred as a result of Fernando Diniz being assigned the task of temporarily taking care of the team as well as the services of his being the Fluminense’s head coach. Junior was appointed to lead the gear. Madrid almost removed Ancelotti, Ronaldo revealed, and Madrid would have provided room for him to come to Brazil.
