A notable socialite and hotel owner in Akure, Ondo State, Adesoji Johnson Adeleye, was assassinated by gunmen on Tuesday morning.
Adeleye, who was the Chief Executive Officer of Klass Five Hotel, was reportedly attacked and killed in one of the rooms of the hotel in the Arakale area of Akure, where he passed the night.
Sources stated that the attackers broke into the hotel complex, confronted Adeleye who was already up for the day and stabbed him several times and hit him with a mortar that killed him. A close friend of the deceased, who passed the night with him, stated that he was shocked when he heard the news.
The police have since been alerted and detectives from the Ondo State Police Command visited the scene of the crime. The corpse of the victim was removed to the morgue as investigation began with some individuals already being questioned.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Alexander Olayinka, told Daily Sun that the case had been brought to the state police headquarters for investigation. He gave an assurance that the police were making efforts to apprehend the perpetrators.
