“You Can’t Silence the Truth” – Eedris Abdulkareem Slams NBC Ban on New Song

Controversial rapper and activist, Eedris Abdulkareem, has lashed out at the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) for banning his latest song, “Tell Your Papa.”

The angry musician contends that the move was nothing other than an attempt at silencing the truth and curtailing criticisms against the government.

In a memo on April 9, 2025, NBC announced the “Not To Be Broadcast (NTBB)” for violating decency levels as described under Section 3.1.8 of the Nigerian Broadcasting Code. Abdulkareem isn’t having any of that.

He turned to Instagram to characterise the ban as political and directly aimed at President Bola Tinubu’s administration from criticism by the general public.

This present regime of President Bola Tinubu is now officially on record as being one of the most insensitive, vindictive, and grossly maleficent administrations ever to govern over the existence of Nigeria,” he wrote.

The rapper also made similar references to the censoring of his iconic protest anthem “Jaga Jaga” in 2004 during former President Obasanjo’s administration, questioning if Nigeria has truly done anything towards embracing freedom of expression.

They’re instructing broadcast homes to shield the government by hiding the candle under the table,” he said to them.

“No surprise why Nigeria has never recorded significant progress all these years? The conscience is an open wound — only the truth heals it.”

Abdulkareem ended his message with a motivating rallying cry:
“Aluta Continua!
