Wike Okays Recruitment of 34 Resident Doctors to Boost FCT Health Sector

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has given approval for the appointment of 34 Resident Doctors on a fixed seven-year Residency Training Programme, as the first batch of 60 medical trainees to be employed in FCTA hospitals.

This was revealed in a Wednesday statement by Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, emphasizing that this exercise, executed outside the Health Management Board, is aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery in the FCT through the injection of more skilled professionals.

The new physicians span eight medical specialties: Psychiatry (5), Internal Medicine (4), General Surgery (1), Anesthesiology (1), Family Medicine (8), Ophthalmology (6), and Obstetrics & Gynaecology (9).

Olayinka also revealed that the FCTA Civil Service Commission will be employing the remaining 26 Resident Doctors, across Psychiatry, Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Anesthesiology, and Paediatrics, in the near future.
