Vigilante Member Killed, Colleague Abducted in Lagos Community Raid

A member of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Kayode Goriola, was tragically killed while his colleague was kidnapped during a midnight raid in the Igbe community of Ikorodu, Lagos State. The assailants, who accessed the community through a swampy area early Saturday morning, encountered the two vigilante members who attempted to thwart their operation.

According to local resident Tunji Alao, the kidnappers fatally shot Goriola when he resisted abduction, then proceeded to take his colleague captive.

“The two vigilante members were on their routine patrol when they encountered the kidnappers,” Alao explained.

“When they tried to stop them, they were overpowered. Goriola was shot in the head after refusing to go with them.”

This incident marks the fourth such attack in the community, according to another resident identified as Okla. He recalled a previous incident where a couple was kidnapped, leaving their baby behind in their vehicle.

The victims were only released after a ransom payment. In another attack, a vigilante member lost his life, and their leader sustained serious injuries requiring two months of hospitalization. Lawal Abdullahi, head of the local vigilante group, confirmed the incident while attending to burial arrangements for his fallen colleague.

“We have already reported to the police station about collecting his remains from the mortuary,” he stated.
