Vandal Dies in Transformer Substation Incident in Damaturu

A suspected vandal was found dead inside a transformer substation at Commissioners’ Quarters in Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State.

The body was discovered early in the morning by local residents heading to mosque for prayers and was later removed by the Damaturu police patrol team, known as “Operation Haba Maza.”

The corpse was taken to the Damaturu Teaching Hospital’s mortuary, where it was identified and claimed by the suspect’s relatives.

Following the discovery, officials from the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) visited the scene.

Blessing Tunor, the Communication Officer of YEDC, explained that the deceased had attempted to shield himself with his shirt while tampering with an exposed live wire.

Unfortunately, this led to his electrocution. Tunor confirmed that the transformer was not damaged and no additional vandalism occurred.

Yobe State Police Public Relations Officer DSP Dungus Abdulkarim reported that the suspect was trying to steal power assets during a power outage.

Power was unexpectedly restored, causing the electrocution. The police were alerted by the residents and responded promptly to secure and remove the body.
