The United States has canceled more than 6,000 student visas since the beginning of 2025, according to State Department officials.
Around 4,000 of these cancellations were due to criminal offenses including assault, drunk driving, burglary, and suspected terrorism ties.
The remaining visa revocations were linked to security concerns.
Under the current administration’s stricter immigration policies, foreign students and green card holders who publicly support Palestinians or criticize Israel’s military actions in Gaza now risk deportation, as authorities classify such statements as threats to US foreign policy interests.
This development follows recent warnings from the US Embassy to international students about circumstances that could lead to visa cancellation.
The Trump administration has implemented tougher immigration rules, including more rigorous social media screening for visa applicants.
The State Department has revoked over 40,000 visas total this year, compared to 16,000 during the same period under the previous administration.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio has emphasized that student visas are not guaranteed and that the US maintains the right to ensure visitors meet security and safety standards.
