Recently discovered photos reveal Sean “Diddy” Combs and his then-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez in a tense argument during an afterparty following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. The images, taken on September 7, 2000, at the now-closed Lotus nightclub in New York City, capture a dramatic moment between the two. On that same night, Combs faces new accusations in a lawsuit that alleges he assaulted a young girl in front of two unnamed celebrities, according to the Daily Mail.
A source who attended the exclusive gathering recalls the intensity of the encounter between Combs and Lopez, who dated from 1999 to 2001. The guest described Combs holding a champagne bottle as tensions escalated between him and Lopez. The confrontation led to an early departure for the rapper, his entourage, and a group of women. The photos capture the scene as Lopez appears visibly upset, shouting at Combs before eventually walking away.
The pair had arrived at the party following the VMAs at Radio City Music Hall, accompanied by Lopez’s sister Lynda, manager Benny Medina, record executive Damon Dash, and several others in their entourage, including girls who joined them in the VIP section. After celebrating Lopez’s win for Best Dance Video for her song “Waiting for Tonight,” the festive atmosphere turned sour, leading to the visible tension between Lopez and Combs.
The resurfaced images add a new layer of intrigue as Combs confronts serious allegations in the lawsuit, although Lopez is not named in the filing. The plaintiff, who was 13 at the time, claims that she had attended the VMAs without a ticket, hoping to catch a glimpse of the stars at Radio City Music Hall. Her attorney, Tony Buzbee, who recently filed multiple lawsuits involving alleged victims of Combs, detailed the assault allegations in federal court in New York.
Combs’s legal team has denied the accusations, calling them unfounded and an attempt to gain publicity. Combs is currently awaiting trial on related charges.
