UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has extended his congratulations to Donald Trump, the projected winner of the 2024 U.S. presidential election, despite final votes still being tallied. Projected victories in battleground states like Pennsylvania, Georgia, and North Carolina appear to have given Trump the edge.
In a message on X (formerly Twitter) Wednesday morning, Starmer addressed Trump as “President-elect,” commending his victory and expressing eagerness for future collaboration.
“Congratulations, President-elect Trump, on your historic election victory. I look forward to working with you in the years ahead,” Starmer wrote, emphasizing the enduring alliance between the UK and the US. “As the closest of allies, we stand shoulder to shoulder in defence of our shared values of freedom, democracy, and enterprise.”
Starmer also expressed confidence in the UK-US special relationship, noting, “From growth and security to innovation and tech, I know that our partnership will continue to thrive across the Atlantic for years to come.”
