During his inauguration as the 47th President of the United States on Monday, Donald Trump reflected on surviving an assassination attempt just months earlier.
“In a beautiful Pennsylvania field, an assassin’s bullet ripped through my ear,” Trump recounted, referencing the July 13 incident near Butler, Pennsylvania. “But I felt then, and believe even more so now, that my life was saved for a reason. God saved me to make America great again.”
The attempted assassination occurred when Thomas Matthew Crooks climbed to an elevated position with an assault rifle and fired several shots during a rally. One bullet grazed Trump’s right ear, but he escaped unharmed.
