A tragedy struck in Osun State, where two final-year students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) and a driver lost their lives in a fatal road accident. The incident occurred in the Ojutu area of Ilobu, Irepodun Local Government Area, when an 18-seater Mazda bus burst into flames after losing control at high speed. Eyewitnesses reported that the explosion killed three victims on the spot, while five others sustained burn injuries.
Agnes Ogungbemi, Osun Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the accident on Thursday, attributing it to speeding and loss of control. She noted that the injured were rushed to the Uniosun Teaching Hospital in Osogbo and other private hospitals in the city. Ogungbemi also revealed that three cell phones were recovered from the accident scene and handed over to the police.
Henry Benamaisia, another FRSC official, urged drivers to exercise caution on public roads, emphasizing the need to prevent avoidable accidents and loss of lives.
