President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident at a Children’s Funfair in Ibadan, Oyo State, which claimed the lives of 35 children and left many others injured.
In a statement issued by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, on Thursday, Tinubu extended heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Oyo State, as well as the grieving families who lost their children in the horrific event.
The President called for a thorough investigation into the incident, urging relevant authorities to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
He emphasized the need to determine if negligence or deliberate actions by the event organisers played a role.
“It is imperative to ensure a transparent and accountable process in investigating this painful incident,” Tinubu said.
He also urged the Oyo State Government to take all necessary measures to prevent a recurrence, including:
A comprehensive review of safety protocols for public events.
Strict enforcement of safety regulations.
Regular safety audits of event venues.
Tinubu further called on event organisers nationwide to prioritize the safety of attendees, especially children.
“Our children’s safety and well-being remain paramount,” he stated. “No event should ever compromise their safety or take precedence over their lives.”
