Nigerian TikTok star Habeeb Hamzat, fondly referred to as Peller, has spoken out after being largely criticized for his comments on the viral ’30 Days Rant Challenge.’
Peller had asked Nigerians not to use TikTok for the challenge, as it could lead to the government banning the app.
He instead suggested alternative ways of registering protest, such as using Instagram or street protests.
His remarks, however, did not sit well with the majority of social media users, and he experienced a massive drop in the number of his followers.
In an interview with TVC, Peller revealed that he lost nearly 500,000 followers on TikTok and 400,000 on Instagram following the controversy.
Addressing the outrage in a new video, he clarified that he was never against the challenge but was only concerned about its potential consequences.
He also clarified that he cannot dictate government policies.
“Please, this boy is nobody. I’m just an ordinary citizen like you. I’m not the president or a governor,” he said.
