Notorious terrorist leader Bello Turji is reportedly expressing a willingness to surrender, according to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa. During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, General Musa disclosed that intensified military operations targeting Turji’s network have significantly weakened his position.
These operations, which have dismantled key elements of Turji’s group, include the elimination of his second-in-command and several top lieutenants. The pressure has compelled Turji to release numerous hostages and consider laying down arms. However, General Musa highlighted the challenges faced by the military in tracking Turji due to his unpredictable movements. “They (terrorists) are within the communities; the people know them. Sometimes, when information reaches us, it’s already too late, and he has moved,” Musa noted.
Despite these hurdles, the military’s successes have disrupted Turji’s operations, leaving him in a weakened position. “We have taken out his second-in-command, as well as most of his lieutenants. This has left him with no choice but to release his captives,” Musa explained. “Now, he is beginning to indicate that he is ready to surrender.”
While expressing cautious optimism about this development, General Musa underscored the importance of ensuring accountability. He emphasized that those involved in acts of violence and the deaths of innocent citizens must face justice.
