Tems, Nigeria’s beloved introverted superstar, recently shared her thoughts on why she isn’t a big user of smartphones. In an interview for Germany’s Glamour Magazine, the Afrobeats sensation explained that she enjoys being present in the moment and looks for any excuse to leave her phone behind.
The Me and You singer revealed, “I don’t like my smartphone anyway. I prefer to live in the world and have experiences. If I have even the smallest excuse to leave my phone in the drawer, I’ll take it every time.” She added that her management and family, especially her mother and brother, help keep her grounded.
Tems also emphasized the importance of being present, explaining, “Ultimately, you have to manage to stay present, be aware of yourself, and take care of yourself. That is the only way you can grow, constantly learn new ways of looking at life and constantly reassess life. I wouldn’t change a single thing about my life.”
Reflecting on her early career, Tems admitted that she was quite naive at the start, focusing solely on creating good art. “I don’t want to lie. I was very naive at the beginning of my career – I just wanted to make good art. I had to learn how to navigate the music business in a healthy way,” she shared.
The rising star also offered insight into the importance of self-awareness, saying, “You won’t get far in the world if you don’t know who you are. That’s simply the most sustainable path through life. Not just in music, but actually in any industry. I believe that your authentic self will attract people.”
