A day of fun turned to horror at a Mexican fair when a 13-year-old girl was violently thrown from a spinning ride, leaving her with serious hip injuries and sparking outrage over safety standards.
The terrifying incident, which occurred at the Cozumel Fair in Quintana Roo Park near Cancun, was captured on video by a shocked bystander.
The footage shows the moment the ride, carrying 12 passengers, was spinning at high speed when a loud bang signaled disaster.
Fairground employees reportedly failed to properly secure the safety bar that should have kept the teen safely in her seat.
In the disturbing video, the girl can be seen lying awkwardly on the platform after being ejected, clearly in shock and severe pain as a worker rushes to her aid.
The accident left other riders traumatized, including a mother and son who later told authorities they had been holding on “for dear life,” fearing they might suffer the same fate.
“I thought we were next,” the mother reportedly told officials. “We could feel our seats weren’t secure either.”
Following an investigation that revealed the ride failed to meet basic safety requirements, local authorities immediately shut down the attraction.
The operators now face substantial fines for alleged negligence.
A Civil Protection spokesperson confirmed the swift action: “Our directorate in Cozumel acted decisively by closing down a ride at the local fair after a minor suffered a fall while it was in operation.
The accident resulted in injuries to the minor, who was taken to the hospital by her parents for medical treatment.”
The statement continued, “Civil Protection personnel immediately went to the site, conducted a thorough inspection and decided to close the fairground ride.
In addition, an administrative process was initiated against those responsible and a fine was issued.
We will not tolerate negligence that endangers the lives of fair visitors and we require operators to strictly follow the safety rules.”
Local residents expressed little surprise at the incident, with many voicing long-standing concerns about the fair’s safety standards.
“Everyone should know the dangers of going on those cheap fair rides by now,” one local commented on social media after the incident went viral.
Mia, a resident, didn’t hold back: “I can’t stand the fair anymore, it’s dangerous, disgusting, noisy, and every ride plays music at full volume.”
Others called for accountability, with a local named Gio insisting: “The organizers have to be held responsible for putting that girl in the hospital.”
