Gamr Africa Opens E-Sports, Game Development Centre in Lagos to Train 5,000 Youth
Nigeria’s gaming industry has received a significant boost with the opening of a video game development and e-sports training centre by Gamr Africa in Lagos, where it aims to train 5,000 trainees in its maiden year. The project, launched in collaboration with the French Embassy and the University of Lagos (UNILAG), is designed to equip young Nigerians with game development, design, and e-sports entrepreneurship skills to put the country on the world map of digital entertainment. GamrLab CEO, Eniola Edun, in a speech at the unveiling, emphasized the urgent necessity for awareness and education to drive Nigeria’s gaming industry forward. She bemoaned that myths and misconceptions, particularly associating gaming with betting, have slowed down its growth, even among policymakers and business leaders. “Beyond finance and infrastructure, the biggest challenge is the under-appreciation of the economic value of the gaming industry,” Edun said. She noted that video gaming has created millionaires across the globe, both from competitive e-sports and game development, yet Nigeria’s industry remains widely untapped. Despite endorsements by foreign and private investors, government agencies and local institutions have yet to fully recognize and invest in the industry’s potential, Edun said. French Embassy Regional Audiovisual Attaché, Christophe Pecot, stated that they are sponsoring GamrLab because they think it can shape the future of Nigeria’s e-sports and game development industry. The project will equip students and young professionals with expertise to thrive in the industry, create jobs, and drive long-term sectoral growth. Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development Services, UNILAG, Prof. Ayodele Atsenuwa, praised the initiative for bridging the gap between technology, creativity, and business. Represented by Acting Director, Innovation and Technology Management Office, Olayinka Adewunmi, she stated that the hub would foster interdisciplinary collaboration between engineering, humanities, and social sciences, which would allow students to transition from consumers of games to producers of games. She also stated that UNILAG is ready to include gaming in its curriculum and to discuss collaboration with GamrLab to further develop digital skills. The new hub is a giant step for Nigeria’s gaming industry, offering young talents the opportunity to gain global-standard skills and bolster the country’s digital economy. Men in Lagos Spent ₦661bn On Sex Workers In 2024 – Report

Men in Lagos State spent a whopping ₦661billion on transactional sex in 2024, a survey report has stated. The report, published by MO Africa Co, an advisory firm which utilises data to provide solutions across African governments and businesses, shows the extent and complexity of a largely under-the-radar business that thrives despite legal and societal prohibitions.According to the report, ₦329 billion went directly into the pockets of the sex workers. Men spent ₦117 billion on gifts alone, ₦83.6 billion on entertainment, and ₦66.9 billion on hotels and short-lets. The demand for sexual stimulants and enhancers also created a ₦16.7 billion market, as ₦16.7 billion was expended on vices and substances. The survey sampled 20 local government areas of Lagos State, gathering information on expenditure patterns, social life, as well as the multiplier effects of the market on other businesses. With the approximated 3.1 million sexually active men between 20-69 years in Lagos, the report estimated 1.86 million of them to have engaged in transactional sex in the year. On average, each man paid ₦36,750 for each transaction, though payment also varied widely across different locations, ranging from ₦20,000 in Alimosho LGA to ₦100,000 in high-end Eti-Osa LGA. The study illustrated that transactional sex is not limited to traditional street prostitution alone. It also includes brothel working, elite escorting, and a growing online market whereby sex workers use social media and content-sharing sites to find clients. Its cause was mammoth social and economic issues, and it is asserted that individuals frequent commercial sexual services in huge numbers due to convenience, to remove emotional entanglement, and to unwind, without getting entrapped in the complexities of normal relationships. Cause such as financial adversity, urbanization, and changing attitudes toward relationships are also said to be accountable for stoking this trade. Approximately 70% of sex workers gave economic need as the predominant reason for engaging in transactional sex, which has become a survival strategy in Lagos due to the expensive nature of living and few job opportunities. The earnings were spent on personal upkeep, family, education, and small enterprises. Related Posts Market offers rent-now, pay-later answer to tenants. ZLP Chairman Warns Tinubu’s Allies Against Escalating Political Tensions in Rivers, Osun, and Lagos

The National Chairman of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Chief Dan Nwanyanwu, has accused close allies of President Bola Tinubu of fueling political unrest in Rivers, Osun, and Lagos States for their personal gain, warning that their actions pose a serious threat to Nigeria’s democracy. Speaking over the weekend in Abuja, Nwanyanwu urged President Tinubu to rein in his political surrogates, cautioning that the ongoing crises in the three states could destabilize the country ahead of the 2027 elections. “We caution against Osun and Lagos States rehearsing the Wild Wild West and Rivers State revisiting the dangerous militancy in the oil region witnessed in the past,” he stated. Nwanyanwu noted that the legal battles surrounding political control, particularly in Rivers State, have intensified tensions. He questioned the legitimacy of the 27 lawmakers who defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), despite no national division within their former party. He condemned their attempts to withdraw affidavits confirming their defection, saying, “Even an unborn child can attest to the very act of defection, with announcements, video recordings, and the reception organized by their new party.” The ZLP leader further criticized the withholding of funds from Rivers State, linking it to the ongoing crisis. He warned that unchecked political interference could lead to a democratic recession, drawing parallels with past political turbulence in Nigeria’s history. Calling for urgent presidential intervention, Nwanyanwu reminded Tinubu of their shared struggle for democracy in the 1990s, stating that many of those now exploiting the system were not part of that fight. “The intervention of Mr. President is very urgent because we live in a region where democracy is regrettably in recession. This is how the Wild Wild West political crisis started,” he warned. Related Posts Market offers rent-now, pay-later answer to tenants. Nigeria Customs Intercepts N4.2 Billion Donkey Skins, Exotic Cars, and Contraband in Lagos

The Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted a 40-foot container loaded with 4,410 pieces of export-bound dry donkey skin in Lagos, with a street value of N4.236 billion. Comptroller Kola Oladeji, who disclosed this on Tuesday at the Customs Warehouse in Ikeja, Lagos, stated that the seizure was part of enforcement operations carried out between December 25, 2024, and February 4, 2025. He further revealed that six suspects had been arrested in connection with the illegal shipment. In addition to the donkey skins, the NCS also seized 21 units of exotic cars valued at N561.3 million from suspected smugglers in the South-West region. Other confiscated contraband includes: 3,031 bags of rice valued at N398 million 2,725 parcels of cannabis sativa worth N218 million 397 kegs of petrol valued at N1.6 million 118 cartons of frozen poultry products worth N2.8 million 105 bales of second-hand clothing valued at N12.6 million Oladeji stated that the intercepted 1,378kg of cannabis sativa would be handed over to the appropriate agency for further investigation. He recalled that the federal government had banned the importation of foreign parboiled rice through land borders since 2016, allowing entry only through seaports with proper tax payments. However, some individuals continue to violate this policy, affecting the national economy and distorting trade data. On revenue generation, the FOU Zone A recovered N60.902 million through documentation checks and profiling of suspected irregular imports within the same period. The Comptroller reaffirmed the Customs Service’s commitment to combating smuggling and illegal cross-border trade in 2025. He warned economic saboteurs to abandon illicit activities as the ongoing Swift Sting Operation would spare no offenders. He also encouraged legitimate traders and businesses to engage with the Customs Service for support under the Federal Government’s Ease of Doing Business policy.
