Enugu Police Arrest Man for Machete Attack on Wife Over Alleged Infidelity

Operatives of the Okpuje Division, Enugu State Police Command, have arrested a 33-year-old man, Sunday Echege, for severing the left wrist of his wife, Chinonso Echege, over suspected infidelity. The incident occurred in Ibagwa-Agu Farm Settlement, Nsukka Local Government Area. The command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the arrest, facilitated by members of the community, and revealed that the machete used in the attack had been recovered. Preliminary investigations indicate the suspect acted out of suspicion of his wife’s involvement in extramarital affairs. The Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to conduct a thorough and timely investigation. He condemned the act and urged couples to resolve disputes through love and understanding rather than resorting to violence. Meanwhile, the Enugu State government has provided medical care for the victim, relocating her to the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital. Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, Mrs. Ngozi Enih, expressed the government’s commitment to ensuring justice is served. “This is a sad development we are closely monitoring to ensure justice is done,” she stated.
