Nigeria had a significant presence during the inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama in Accra, Ghana, on January 7, with notable figures capturing attention at the event. Among those present was the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, whose arrival and activities became a focal point on social media. The revered traditional ruler was spotted at a Nigerian airstrip arriving in a Rolls Royce before boarding a private jet to Ghana. Upon landing at Kotoka Airport, he was received in grand style, with a luxury vehicle waiting to chauffeur him to the ceremony. A standout moment from the event was a photograph showing the Ooni seated next to the Ga Mantse, the King of the Ga people. This was particularly symbolic, as the Ga people of Accra trace their roots back to Ile-Ife, reinforcing historical ties between the two cultures. Also in attendance was Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, who turned heads when she arrived with her husband, businessman Ned Nwoko. Their presence did not go unnoticed, as a viral video showed former Nigerian presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan standing to greet the couple. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu also joined other world leaders to support and celebrate with Ghana during this historic occasion. Notable figures such as Governor Ademola Adeleke and media mogul Dele Momodu were also seen alongside the Ooni at the event. The ceremony generated buzz online, but not without some controversy. Social media users expressed mixed feelings about the Ooni’s public appearances, with some questioning his priorities regarding personal matters back home. Social Media Reactions @bee0204: “Something is off about him. Why is he not bothered or disturbed that his ex-wife is in prison? Why is he not doing everything in his power to get her out or intervene? She’s the mother of his first son!!” @nikki_resin11: “Free Queen Naomi.” @divadeefabrics: “Ooni, I used to like you before, but now I’m pissed. Kilode ni?” @buskymayor07: “This Ooni dey waka pass actors sef.” Related Posts Uriel was evicted, not Adekunle or Doyin. Ghana is set to open its borders to all African nationals without visa requirements starting in early 2025. The groundbreaking policy, approved by President Nana Akufo-Addo in December, aims to strengthen ties across the continent and boost regional integration. This decision fulfills a promise made by the president during the Africa Prosperity Dialogues, where he emphasized fostering closer relationships within Africa. By removing visa restrictions, the policy seeks to enhance tourism, trade, and travel opportunities in Ghana, addressing long-standing barriers to these sectors. Previously, Ghana allowed visa-free access to citizens of 26 African nations and issued visas on arrival to travelers from 25 others, while requiring visas for just two African countries. The new policy makes Ghana the fifth African nation to offer visa-free entry to all holders of African passports, joining Rwanda, Seychelles, Gambia, and Benin in advancing continental mobility.
