Canada Eases Post-Graduate Work Permit Policy For College, Varsity Students

Canada has made changes to its Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) policy so that international students who graduate from college degree programs are exempted from the condition of a specific field of study requirement. The condition was for graduates from universities and colleges.’The Economic Times’ informs that this is one of the steps taken by the Canadian government to simplify the international education sector. The previous requirement, implemented in 2024, had specifically targeted just college graduates, not university students. The news had reported that it was part of the series of steps being taken by the Canadian government to place greater emphasis on international education, as noted in a report by ICEF Monitor. College graduates are no longer required to meet the PGWP field of study requirement,” says CEO of Canadian Bureau for International Education Larissa Bezo. The new guidelines state students graduating from bachelor’s or master’s degree levels from Canadian colleges and universities were eligible under the PGWP, provided they met language requirements. But industry observers did say that it will take time for colleges to get back on their feet in traditional markets overseas, especially because previous immigration policies have derailed operations, with the impact being less intense for universities. The PGWP program is highly established and well regarded among international students, and the changes occurring next are anticipated to spur recruitment activity at Canadian colleges. With the field-of-study restriction eliminated, institutions can now target a broader segment of foreign degree graduates, strengthening their recruitment potential in the international education market. President Donald Trump Establishes White House Task Force for 2026 FIFA World Cup

On Friday, March 7, 2025, President Donald Trump announced the formation of a White House task force to oversee the organization of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Speaking from the Oval Office alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Trump dismissed concerns that existing trade tensions among the three nations might negatively impact the tournament. When questioned about how ongoing disputes could affect the event, Trump responded, “Oh, I think it’s going to make it more exciting. Tension is a good thing … it makes it much more exciting.” According to lindaikejisblog, the president then signed an executive order formally establishing the 2026 World Cup task force, which he will chair. He described the event as “the largest sporting event in history.” “We’re going to be establishing a task force, a very important task force — White House — and that’s on the FIFA World Cup of 2026, which, as you know, is a big event,” Trump stated. Infantino highlighted the tournament’s economic benefits, noting it would create 200,000 jobs and generate an estimated $40 billion in economic impact. “And more than that, we will give joy and happiness to the entire world, and this is priceless, definitely,” Infantino added. He thanked Trump for forming the task force, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that all visitors feel safe and welcome during the tournament. “That’s why it’s important that the government puts together this White House Task Force,” Infantino said. The 2026 World Cup will be the first to feature 48 teams, significantly expanding the tournament’s scale. Infantino compared it to hosting three NFL Super Bowls per day for an entire month. “That’s really amazing when you think of it,” Trump remarked. “I’ve never heard that expressed.” Related Posts Market offers rent-now, pay-later answer to tenants. Justin Trudeau Calls on Canadians to Support Local Products Amid Trump US Tariffs

Outgoing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has vowed to counter US tariffs with a call for Canadians to prioritize domestically made goods. Trudeau’s response comes after US President Donald Trump announced levies of 25% on imports from Canada and Mexico, alongside an additional 10% tax on Chinese goods set to take effect on February 4. In a statement on X, Trudeau urged citizens to “check the labels, do their part, and choose Canada whenever possible.” He emphasized the importance of supporting local industries amidst escalating trade tensions. In retaliation, Canadian provinces have already begun implementing bans on US products. Nova Scotia has removed American alcohol from its shelves and increased tariffs on commercial vehicles from the US. Canada’s Finance Minister, Dominic LeBlanc, unveiled a comprehensive list of US products subject to retaliatory tariffs amounting to approximately USD 30 billion. This list includes items such as alcohol, household appliances, tools, firearms, dairy products, fruits, vegetables, and clothing. Chrystia Freeland, a contender for Prime Minister and rival to Trudeau, criticized the tariffs as detrimental and stressed that Canada will not back down from the trade dispute. She described the situation as “terrible” and “lose-lose,” asserting that the tariffs would adversely impact Americans who depend on Canadian goods. Canada plans to pursue legal action through international bodies to challenge what it deems as illegal and unjustified tariffs imposed by the United States. Officials in Ottawa confirmed the country’s intention to seek legal recourse under existing agreements with the US, highlighting their commitment to defending Canadian interests in the face of trade disputes.
