Ex-Minister of Youths and Sports Development Solomon Dalung has lamented the poor performance of Nigeria’s Super Eagles at the ongoing World Cup qualifiers. At a palace visit to the Emir of Ilorin in Kwara State, Dalung attributed the failure of the team to inefficient sports administration and administrative wastage. His comments come as the national team is under mounting pressure after a string of poor showings in the qualifiers.
“The World Cup qualifier of the Super Eagles has suffered greatly in the past six years since I left office. “The only time Nigeria qualified was in 2018 and we qualified historically with a match to spare since then Nigeria had not been able to make it to the World Cup,” he said.
“From the way the current campaign is going on, with the match against Rwanda I had hope that Nigeria would get back on track and move onwards on the table but the last match against Zimbabwe had dashed the hope of Super Eagles to fly the flag of Nigeria at the next World Cup.”
“Except par-adventure something extraordinary takes place,” he added. The former minister says lack of leadership is a major cause of concern.
