The lawyer representing controversial singer Speed Darlington has criticized the police for detaining his client for over a week following his re-arrest.
Speed Darlington was apprehended in Owerri, Imo State, last week after performing at a show. This marks his second arrest in recent months.
In October, the singer was arrested in Abuja after a cyberbullying petition was filed against him by fellow artist Burna Boy. The case stemmed from a video Speed Darlington made, implying Burna Boy had connections with Sean “Diddy” Combs, following Diddy’s arrest over allegations of sex trafficking and the discovery of over 1,000 bottles of baby oil in his possession.
Speed Darlington was granted bail after the October incident but was instructed to report back to the police. His lawyer, Alieke, explained that his client’s failure to return led to his recent re-arrest.
Now, a week after the singer’s re-arrest, Alieke has called on the police to uphold his client’s rights and release him on bail, stressing that Speed Darlington is legally entitled to it.
