Speed Darlington Released from Detention, Drops Cryptic Message Online

Speedy Darlington

Controversial Nigerian rapper Speed Darlington, popularly known as Akpi, has returned to social media after his release from custody. The artist was arrested during a performance in Owerri, Imo State, shortly after being released from a previous detention.

His most recent arrest led to nearly two months in custody, with his release finalized on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. A Federal High Court in Abuja granted Speed Darlington bail on January 16.

Justice Ekerete Akpan approved a N20 million bail with one surety for the same amount, following a submission by the rapper’s lawyer, Marshall Abubakar. After regaining his freedom, Speed Darlington broke his silence online, posting a cryptic voiceover alongside images of bulls.

Referring to himself as “Akpi,” he shared a symbolic message: “When bulls fight, one might step back, not out of fear, but to regain energy and return even stronger.”

The rapper’s comeback sparked reactions from fans, with many decoding his statement as a hint of resilience and a promise of bigger moves.

One fan, @jhay.reginald, commented, “That energy wey you go gather, use am drop banger dis year for us.” Another, @kizzo_whitee, wrote, “Presido revenge, give Burna back-to-back. We dey your side.”

Others celebrated his resilience and unique style, with @daddy_huncho_147 describing his post as “the shortest and most powerful welcome back speech from a president.”
