Nigerian musician Darlington Okoye, better known as Speed Darlington or Akpi, has been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force.
The arrest took place on October 4, just two months after his previous release, following a controversial video in which he allegedly mocked fellow artist Burna Boy over his ties with American rapper Diddy, who is currently facing legal issues with the FBI over allegations of sexual exploitation.
The video sparked outrage, leading to Speed Darlington’s detention. He was held in police custody for five days before being granted bail on October 9.
His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the arrest on Wednesday via a post on his official Facebook page, stating, “Our client Speed Darlington, a.k.a Akpi, has been arrested by the Nigerian police in Owerri at his show upon his return to Nigeria.”
Efforts to reach the Nigeria Police Force for comment on the incident were unsuccessful, as Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, did not respond to calls.
