Former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, arrived at the Force Criminal Intelligence Department (FCID) in Abuja on Monday at 10 a.m., accompanied by a heavy security presence. Armed police officers were stationed in anticipation of his appearance, as reported by Premium Times.
Sowore had been summoned for questioning following the release of a viral video where he accused police officers at a Lagos checkpoint of extorting money from motorists. The FCID issued an invitation letter to Sowore on January 23, outlining several charges under investigation, including obstructing public officers, disobeying lawful orders, and cyberstalking.
The letter, signed by a senior police officer, instructed Sowore to report for an interview with the Deputy Inspector General of Police at the Force Intelligence Department Complex in Abuja. In response to the summons, Sowore’s supporters within the Take It Back Movement rallied behind him, calling for a protest against police extortion at the Force Headquarters.
A flier circulating on social media urged supporters to gather in solidarity to demonstrate against the alleged misconduct.
