Activist and erstwhile presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore on Tuesday took a demonstration to the headquarters of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Maitama, Abuja, demanding that the discharge certificate of Ushie Rita Uguamaye, popularly known as “Raye,” be issued immediately.
He was joined by human rights attorney Inibehe Effiong, who is also counsel to Raye. The protest followed Sowore’s promise on his social media to ensure justice for the corps member, saying she had met all the conditions for her one-year national service.
Raye had alleged that the NYSC withheld her certificate as a punishment for speaking against President Bola Tinubu’s administration. The NYSC, in protest of any political agenda, defended she flunked the April 2025 biometric clearance as a breach of NYSC Bye-Laws mandating a two-month service extension.
The agency went further to state Raye is among the 131 corps members undergoing discipline for genuine offenses against service guidelines.
