Sowore Defends Lagos Corper To NYSC Headquarters Over Viral Video Row

A human rights activist and former governorship aspirant, Omoyele Sowore, has defended National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Ushie Rita Uguamaye, also known as Raye, who has been attacked for criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s regime on a viral video.

In a Monday clip on the X (formerly Twitter) platform, Sowore announced that he had met Uguamaye in Lagos and would take her to the NYSC Local Government Inspector’s (LGI) office, assisted by a team of lawyers.”The ride with youth Corper, Ushie Rita Uguamaye, has commenced in Lagos,” Sowore tweeted. “She is coming to the LGI today, and we are taking her to their headquarters. We are all going there with attorneys.”

Uguamaye had recently caused a lot of uproar after she posted a TikTok video lamenting the humiliating economic condition of Nigeria and publicly condemning the administration of President Tinubu.

Following the circulation of the video, she had alleged that she was threatened for what she said.

NYSC then invited her to report on Monday at 10a.m. at the office of LGI in Eti-Osa 3, which has also attracted a great deal of public interest in the case.

Sowore’s first day has also sparked even more fears of political opposition and free speech in Nigeria, with everyone wondering if Uguamaye would be punished by the NYSC or other government agencies.

Up to press time, the NYSC issued no statement on the issue.
