Houses and business centers were destroyed while some individuals were injured after a clash between traditional worshippers and Muslim youths in Shimankar community of Plateau State, Shendam local government area.
LEADERSHIP’s investigation revealed that the violence started on Sunday evening and continued into Monday morning.
An impeccable source who wished not to be quoted, attested to the incidence with our correspondent, explaining that the violence broke out when traditional worshippers were in motion and there was a clash between them and the some Muslim youths, leading to houses being engulfed in flames.
Therefore, women, children, and men were seen fleeing the site as owners closed down their business units in haste.
Efforts to reach Chief of Shimankar, Long Menkaat Manu, to hear from him about what had happened in his division couldn’t be made as his telephone was turned off.
In addition, as of the filing of this report, Plateau State Police Command public relations officer, DSP Alabo Alfred, failed to comment on the matter.
Operation Save Haven (OPSH) Public Relations Officer, Major Samson Zhakom, when contacted at the time of press, promised to call the concerned authorities on the matter and get back to our correspondent.
