Nigeria’s Senate Minority Whip Senator Osita Ngwu has been appointed as the African representative to the Bureau of the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security at the 150th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Ngwu, whose State of origin is Enugu West Senatorial District, was nominated by Nigeria and the sub-region of West Africa to represent the region on the influential committee, which provides Member-Parliaments with a strategic framework to address global security challenges.
The IPU Committee on Peace and International Security is in the lead in promoting international peace, monitoring international security trends, and recommending effective measures to counter changing threats. Although the committee started out focusing on preventing conflict, keeping peace, and building peace, it has increasingly come to focus on more overarching and more advanced global security matters.
Ngwu is one of other members of Nigeria’s House of Representatives and Senate at the ongoing IPU Assembly, where lawmakers from all over the world come together to bridge gaps and foster cooperation on matters of global interest.
