Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has made a big statement of her unbreakable determination to serve her people by defying a ban imposed by the state government on rallies and public gatherings as she returned to her constituency in a grand style.
Earlier, Hon. Amoka Eneji, Chairman Okehi LGA, had imposed an emergency curfew on the grounds of public order and forbidding, among other things, political rallies and large gatherings.
Natasha defied the ban, arriving in a helicopter and hosting a massive rally to reestablish contact with the people.
Addressing the boisterous crowd, the senator provided a hint that nothing would prevent her from returning home.
“Nobody and nothing will keep me away from home. I am an Ebira woman; this is my state. I am the daughter of late Jimoh Abdul Akpoti.
I know who I am; I’m not a bastard, and I am not scared of anyone,” she claimed, attesting to her unshakeable bond with Kogi Central.
She further clarified on the issue of curfew, indicating that she made a visitation not meant to be political but homecoming to felicitate with her people.
Yesterday, we heard on the news that rallies and gatherings would not be allowed, roads would be shut down, and convoys entering the state would be restricted.
I knew we were the target. But I said to myself, this is not campaign season.”.
“We are not having a rally. I am simply a senator from Kogi Central, going home to mark Sallah with my people.
There is nothing wrong with that. I am not breaking any law. We are in Nigeria, and we have the right to be free, to congregate, and to celebrate.”
